How do I access electronic reserves?

Last year, electronic reserves were accessible through the library catalog and through WebBoard. But this summer saw nothing but change! Starting this fall, electronic reserves are accessed through MySLC. Still confused? Follow these instructions. Still confused? Leave us a comment here, or give us a call at x2225.

To Google or Not To Google...

One of the great things about the Web is the huge wealth of material available. A simple Google search can result in thousands of hits from Web sites all over the internet. But this wealth of material can also be overwhelming. Using Google to research a topic can sometimes result in wasted time, semi-relevant results, and unreliable information.

So what's a college student to do? This is where the library comes in! The reference librarians at your library are information specialists. Recently, in the Washington Post, Loriene Ray, the President Elect of the American Library Association, had this to say: "Librarians provide more than facts. We provide the expertise and services to add meaning to those facts."

So let us use our expertise to help you conduct more meaningful, productive, and relevant searches. You can request an individual research consultation with a reference librarian, and Emily, Carl, or I will be delighted to help you with search strategies and locating the best resources for your topic.

Google is great, but it isn't everything. Let us help you do better research--research that is purposeful, effective, and yes, even fun!

Where's the reference office?!?

Returned to campus and can't find the reference librarians anywhere? We haven't disappeared--we've just moved around the corner! You can find us in the bright and spacious office just on the other side of the circulation desk. Our office is always open to students and faculty, so please stop by and check out our new digs!

Greetings from a new reference librarian

Greetings everyone!

My name is Maria Accardi, and I am a new reference librarian here at Sarah Lawrence. My responsibilities include working at the reference desk, conducting library instruction sessions, conducting individual research consultations, and collection development (i.e. buying books for the library) for literature, writing, history, Italian, and Spanish. I am very happy to be here and am looking forward to an exciting and productive school year.

I believe that the role of the librarian is to be a friendly, approachable, and helpful facilitator of information access. This means that I am here to help you, so I hope to see you in the library some time! You can contact me at maccardi@slc.edu or extension 2225. You can also feel free to visit me in the reference office located behind the circulation desk.

I wish you the best as you begin this semester.
