Black Thought and Culture

We are currently hosting a trial for Alexander Street Press's Black Thought and Culture database. From the press materials:

"Black Thought and Culture contains 1297 sources with 1100 authors, covering the non-fiction published works of leading African Americans. Particular care has been taken to index this material so that it can be searched more thoroughly than ever before. Where possible the complete published non-fiction works are included, as well as interviews, journal articles, speeches, essays, pamplets, letters and other fugitive material."

This looks like an excellent addition to our primary source collections in Africana Studies, with relevance across the curriculum. We hope you'll take a look and let us know what you think here on our news blog, or by email at reference@slc.edu. You can access the trial via our Databases A-Z page. Log in using the username and password information listed there.

2007 Library Survey Results

The Sarah Lawrence College Annual Library Survey was conducted from February 16 through March 2, 2007. A total of 321 respondents completed the survey.

Our response to the survey addresses the issues and concerns that survey responders expressed. Some of these issues include:

  • Reference consultations and library instruction
  • Library databases
  • Access and quality of e-reserve materials
  • Availability of Music Library resources
  • Computer lab availability and relocation
  • Copy machines in the library

You can download the survey report in PDF format at this link here: http://www.slc.edu/library/survey/LibrarySurveyReport2007.pdf

You can also view the summary of the survey results at this link: http://www.slc.edu/library/survey/surveysummary.html

Wherever possible, we have tried to address these concerns and offer concrete solutions to these problems. We thank you for taking the time to let us know your thoughts about the library. We appreciate your participation. Your feedback helps us serve you better.
