Staff changes in the library
Get ready for lots of changes in the library staff! Library director Sha Fagan sent an email today detailing the departures of Judy Kicinski, Jenni McSpadden, and Allison Aran, as well as the return of Bobbie Smolow as Head of Technical Services, and the promotion of Janet Alexander to Assistant Director of the Library. After 26 years of exemplary service Judy Kicinski will be retiring at the end of this academic year. Affectionately know to us as the "wind-up" librarian who took on any query, no matter how obscure, Judy will be missed. During her tenure at SLC she has helped countless numbers of students and faculty members with their research, cooked and baked for campus events, and shy as she was, took part in fund-raising phonations. As Assistant Librarian, she was my right hand and helped shape the library's collections, both print and non-print. Judy does not want a party but we will be sending her off with our very warmest wishes. Please do come by and sign her book and wish her well in her retirement. We will be accepting contributions toward a gift certificate we will be presenting her. Judy is on campus Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays if you wish to stop by say goodbye.
Jenni McSpadden, aka Mac, will also be leaving us at the end of July. She will be leaving with her partner to start another chapter in Kansas City. Those of you who know Mac will remember her good natured cudgeling of first year studies faculty to sign up for bibliographic instruction. Mac began her all too brief career at SLC as reference librarian and was soon promoted to Head of Reference. I know that we will all miss her very cheerful and energetic presence.
Alison Aran, our cataloger, is someone that many of you may not know. In the year she has been here she has quietly and competently processed many of the books that have been added to the library. She is moving to San Diego to join her parents.
I am pleased to announce that Bobbie Smolow will be returning to SLC to work in the library. She is returning after 5 years at Northwestern and is thrilled to be returning to SLC. She will rejoin the staff as Head of Technical Services beginning June 15th.
I am very happy to announce that effective August 1st; Janet Alexander will assume responsibilities as Assistant Director of the Library. Please join me in congratulating her.
Sad to hear Judy's leaving, especially before...well, anyway. Mac, too.
On the other hand, Bobbie was sorely missed. She will kick some ass and take some names, no doubt.
